Students invited to observe at clinic

High school students who are interested in studying speech-language pathology or audiology are invited to observe at Augustana Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing this summer.

This opportunity will be offered at the center's summer intensive clinic for its clients June 11-29 and July 9-27.

Students who major in Communication Sciences and Disorders  (CSD) at Augustana or another college will need to observe 25 hours of clinical practice before they complete undergraduate or graduate clinical coursework.

Observing during the summer clinic can give students a taste for what CSD at Augustana is all about and also let them see if this is a career path that may interest them.

The Augustana center's director will provide student observers a form on which they may track observation hours. This document may be submitted to the student's college's director of clinical education.

Observation times are:

9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays;

9-10:30 a.m. and 1-5 p.m. Tuesdays

1-3 p.m. Thursdays.

The Augustana Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing is in the Brodahl Building, 851 34th St., Rock Island.

Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the building.

It is the on-campus internship site for undergraduate students majoring in communication sciences and disorders. Faculty and student interns provide assessment and intervention services to people with a variety of disorders.
