If my parents are divorced or separated, whose information should be used on the FAFSA?
In the event of a divorce or separation, you should answer the FAFSA questions based on the parent you lived with the most during the last twelve months. If you did not live with one parent more than the other, you should answer the FAFSA questions based on the parent who provided the most financial support during the last twelve months. If your parent is remarried, you must provide information about your parent and the person whom your parent married.
When do I receive my financial assistance package from Augustana?
Once the Office of Financial Assistance receives your FAFSA results and all other supporting documentation has been submitted, we will prepare a financial assistance package for you. Financial assistance packages are mailed to accepted students beginning March 1st and extending through April. Financial assistance packages for returning Augustana students are prepared and mailed beginning in May and continue through the summer.
What will be included in my financial assistance package?
Every student's financial assistance package is different. Typically, financial assistance offers may include scholarships, grants (federal, state and/or institutional), work-study, and loans. Scholarships offered by Augustana are based upon academic record or talent. The results of the FAFSA will determine your eligibility for federal, state and institutional grants as well as work-study and loan.
Do I need to complete a new FAFSA each year and will my financial assistance stay the same?
Yes, you will need to complete a FAFSA on an annual basis if you wish to be considered for federal, state and institutional assistance. Returning students are encouraged to file a "renewal FAFSA" each spring.
Provided your family's income and asset information remains fairly consistent from year to year, you can generally expect a similar assistance package each year. Your assistance may increase or decrease due to a change in the number of family members and/or the number in college reported on the FAFSA. A significant change in income and/or assets can also cause a change in eligibility for need-based assistance.
When will I receive a tuition bill?
Tuition bills are mailed to students approximately three to four weeks prior to the beginning of each term. Term start dates for 2012-2013 are as follows:
Fall term - Monday, August 20, 2012
Winter term - Monday, November 12, 2012
Spring term - Monday, March 4, 2013
