Vikings ranked fourth in first power ranking

Augustana starts its season off ranked fouth in the NCAA Division III indoor track & field rankings released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Vikings of veteran head coach Fred Whiteside jump 16 spots from finishing last season ranked 20th.
Augustana has 109.15 points in the year's first poll, just 8.02 points off of fellow College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin competitor, Illinois Wesleyan University, who begins the year as the top ranked team in the nation with 117.17 points. Followed closely behind is Massachusetts Institute of Technology with 115.47 points and Bates College with 110.87 points.
The Vikings opened up the season with a team win at the Dubuque Open and then traveled to the Monmouth Invite where they brought home seven event winners. The rankings to do not include the results from last weekend's invitational at Olivet Nazerene in which Augustana ran for two school records en route to a third place finish.
This weekend the Vikings will travel to the Warhawk Invitational on Friday, Februrary 2 in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
