Office of Multicultural Services

Welcome to the Office of Multicultural Services at Augustana College!  We embrace the College's mission to "prepare students for lives of leadership and service in an (increasingly) diverse and changing world."  The Office of Multicultural Services offers programs and networking opportunities for all students to work across areas of difference in order to enact a campus environment that extends welcome and comfort for all members of our diverse community. 

The Place That Makes it Happen

At Augustana, we don't simply work to increase diversity: we actively promote a campus culture that's wholely inclusive- that values people of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Students from our neighboring city Moline, whose parents emigrated from Mexico, are here at Augustana- and so are students from Polish and African-American neighborhoods of Chicago's south side. Asian-American students from China to India and Swedish decendents of our college's founding fathers all call this campus their home. 

The Office of Multicultural Services is a place where students gather to discuss diversity on campus and create programs to help raise diversity awareness all in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

The Office of Multicultural Services addresses the needs and ideas of all Augustana students and makes sure they know about multicultural events and programs on and off campus. The office acts as a liason between students and the faculty and administration, and hosts occasional diversity training workshops for college employees and sports teams.

Overall, the office helps support Augustana's liberal arts campus as a community that respects diverse backgrounds and inspires diverse futures.

Mission:

The Office of Multicultural Services (OMS) provides ongoing support and services to all Augustana students to engage issues of difference in effort to create a campus climate of welcome, mutuality and preparation for participation in an increasingly diverse global community.

We aspire to blend a variety of diverse campus cultures into a united whole. Through social and service activities we are committed to the development, collaborative growth and education of the Augustana community.
