Alcohol
Augustana College, like other colleges across the country, has concerns about student use of alcohol. Many students use the new freedoms acquired at college in a responsible manner, but there are many others who are unable to find an appropriate balance in regard to the use of alcohol. We find that students who have a history of drinking prior to coming to Augustana, as well as those who have not consumed alcohol before coming to campus, can start drinking in ways that are unsafe and destructive.
Augustana offers programs, information, counseling and many alcohol-free activities during the year. Nonetheless, alcohol abuse remains a problem and we seek your help in addressing the issue before and during your student's college career. If you need suggestions about how to approach the topic with your student, please refer to www.collegedrinkingprevention.gov/. If you are aware that your student is having difficulty, please connect him or her with our campus resources so that we can address problems as early as possible. We enlist your help and are committed to providing a safe and healthy experience for your students while they are here.
