Top-seeded St. Thomas held on for a 5-4 win over sixth seed Augustana Sunday at the NCAA softball regional at Central College. The loss ends the 25th-ranked Vikings' season at 32-14. St. Thomas, ranked eighth in the nation, moves on with a mark of 41-6.
Freshman Ashley Anderson threw four shutout innings against 12th-ranked Coe Saturday and junior Jamie Rehmert paced the offense as Augustana remained alive in NCAA tournament play with a 5-1 win over the Kohawks. The 25th-ranked Vikings improve to 32-13 on the year and move on to face top-seeded and eighth-ranked St. Thomas (40-6) Sunday at noon. Coe ends its season at 34-8, with two of the losses coming at the hands of the Vikings.
Laura Behnke's solo home run in the top of the ninth Saturday gave sixth-seeded Augustana a 3-2 win over fifth seed Washington University and kept the Vikings alive at the NCAA softball regional at Central College. Coach Kris Kistler's club improves to 31-13 on the year and advances to a 4:00 p.m. game on Saturday afternoon. The Bears end their season with a 31-14 record.
Freshman Cheyenne Burnett had a big day at the plate and classmate Ashley Anderson threw five scoreless innings of relief Friday as Augustana defeated Cornell 7-1 at the NCAA regional at Central College. The Vikings improve to 30-13 on the year and will face Washington University at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cornell's season ends at 23-16.
Fontbonne got just one ball out of the infield in a fateful sixth inning Thursday, but it was a big one - a grand slam off the bat of Danni Glixman that gave the Griffins a 5-2 win over Augustana at the NCAA regional at Central College. The 25th-ranked Vikings drop to 29-13 and face Cornell at noon on Friday. 23rd-ranked Fontbonne, 34-10, advances in the winners' bracket.
