We are delighted to welcome you to the Augustana College community. It’s time to get ready to begin your orientation as an international student!
We realize that it is unlikely you will be able to visit the campus this summer for Summer Connection, our summer orientation program for incoming students. Therefore, if you are unable to attend Summer Connection, you will register for classes during the International Student Orientation, which will take place August 10-15, 2012.
This information applies to you if you are:
- An international student who lives in the United States
- A person who does not have a U.S. passport and does not live in the United States
- A U.S. citizen living abroad
Please follow the directions below in order to complete your preparations for arrival at Augustana:
STEP ONE: Take the Chemistry and Math placement tests by June 1, 2012. You should take the math and chemistry tests even if you do not intend to study in those fields while you are here. This applies to all students, whether you are here to earn a degree or you are here through an exchange and will be on campus for one year or less. You do not need to take a foreign language placement test unless you intend to continue study in Spanish, French, or Latin.
STEP TWO: This is very important. Please arrange to have your official transcripts from your final term/semester in high school and/or college sent directly to Augustana College, Office of the Registrar as soon as possible. Please be sure to request that they include your spring term transcripts; in addition, the transcript must be in English.
STEP THREE: Fill out your housing preference form. This is due on June 1. You can find the necessary forms and information here.
STEP FOUR: Send your complete travel itinerary to Jane Tiedge, International Student Advisor, Email: janetiedge@augustana.edu. Please be sure to include the airline carrier, flight numbers, date and times of your arrival. If you are traveling with a cell phone, please include your number.
STEP FIVE: If you are not able to attend a Summer Connection day (and we recognize that most international students will not be able to), you will register for classes during International Student Orientation in August. If you are able to attend Summer Connection, please submit a date preference by filling out the Summer Connection registration form for first-year students. When you come to campus for Summer Connection, please bring a photo ID and a government issued passport with you.
STEP SIX: Get ready to attend International Student Orientation!
International students should arrive on Wednesday, August 8 or Thursday, August 9, 2012. This orientation is mandatory for international students (even if you are a U.S. citizen who lives overseas), and will take place Friday through Wednesday, August 10-15. Programming includes field trips to local sites, shopping, academic events (such as class registration and purchasing textbooks) and an introduction to the campus itself.
Beginning August 16, you will join the rest of the first-year students for Fall Connection, our general orientation to the college for all first-year students. Classes begin on Monday, August 20.
