The Office of International and Off Campus Programs is assessing the safety of travel in the coming months. Program directors hope to make a first round of recommendations by Feb. 15, based on new information resulting from the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Most semester abroad programs for fall and spring of 2020-21 were canceled, and many of the January faculty-led programs have been postponed until the summer.
“We realize that circumstances are continuously changing, but we believe that these summer initiatives could move forward as long as travel abroad can be made safe and risk of infection in countries of destination do not represent a threat to our students,” said Pedro Bidegaray, IOP director.
“We hope that the availability of a vaccine might address safety concerns, but we will also take into consideration assessments by the CDC and the availability of safety protocols for specific countries.”
He said he is encouraged by the news of global vaccinations, and hopeful for travel in 2021-2022.
A varied and robust menu of study away programs is available for students, and applications for next year are open.
