Three men and two women are needed for the play “Boy,” to be staged April 11-14, 2019. Auditions will be held from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 10-11 at the Black Box in the Brunner Center.
Inspired by a true story, Anna Ziegler’s "Boy" explores love and a confusion of sexual identity. The play is inspired by the true story of David Peter Reimer, whose genitalia were mutilated during a botched medical circumcision. A specialist in gender identity encouraged his parents to raise David as a girl, and the repercussions lasted for decades.
Anyone auditioning should be prepared to deal with topics including mental health issues, gender identity, sexuality, and the consequences of severe physical and emotional trauma if they are cast in this production. Reading the casebook before auditions is recommended. Send any questions involving the show to director Jaryd Whitmore.
Theatre majors must bring a prepared dramatic monologue. Non-majors are not required to do this, but are encouraged to do so.
