Academic department chairs are invited to nominate a student who shows promise as a college teacher or researcher for the annual Hasselmo Award.
Established by Dr. Nils Hasselmo '57, the prize funds a yearly award of up to $5,000 to enrich the experience of a student who has demonstrated academic excellence and who expresses an intent to pursue higher education teaching and/or research as a vocation.
Funds from the prize can used to support student research or creative endeavors, attend professional meetings, travel to special collections, laboratories or other resources, or any unique academically rigorous opportunity not typically available. ;The prize must be used during the 2019-2020 school year (including summer 2019).
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 1. Nominations should be made by department chairs. The chair should discuss the student’s academic record and his/her potential for a future academic position in higher education. Preference will be given to applicants who will be seniors in the fall of 2019. Nominations should be submitted to Beth Ford in CORE.

The selection will be announced at the 2019 Undergraduate Honors Convocation. The recipient is expected to report at the 2019-20 Celebration of Learning and submit a one-page written summary to the Office of Advancement by May 1, 2020.
