Wallenberg Faculty Grants for Scandinavian Studies

Call for proposals

The Augustana College Scandinavian Studies Program invites grant proposals from faculty and staff seeking to implement new curricular, programming, or research initiatives that connect Augustana College with Sweden and the Nordic region.

Through a major gift from the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation, several smaller grants will be awarded to faculty and staff, up to $5,000 (maximum $10,000 total to be awarded in 2020). These grants are open to faculty and staff in any discipline.

Connection to Sweden and the Nordic region is broadly understood, and may be comparative in scope. The Nordic region is understood as Denmark, Faroes, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sápmi, Svalbard, and Sweden.

Initiatives may include establishing new curriculum, study abroad experiences, faculty research projects leading to publication or conference presentations, hosting professional conferences, traveling exhibits, or performances in music and theatre.

Potential curricular uses of these funds could include covering expenses related to scouting and establishing J-term experiences and semester programs with related faculty-led travel, or courses held on campus with wide appeal, such as FYI courses.

Proposals are due March 23, 2020. These grants should be spent by Aug. 31, 2021.

See the application and scope of grants.
