To keep communication as clear as possible, and archive it for later use, the Office of Human Resources will be sending out updates using this format.

Three Months of a New Normal
It’s hard to believe it’s been three months since our campus activities were disrupted by COVID-19. Despite this, our campus continues to meet the mission and serve our students. Please accept a video thank you for your hard work during these extraordinary times.
Updates on COVID Response
As guidance continues to change, the college has created a website presence to keep the campus community informed as practices and policies change. An excellent Q&A document was created based on the questions that have been answered by the Live Chat feature on our website.
Guidelines for On Campus Work
This week begins a staggered return to on-campus work. A few reminders are below.
Not all buildings are open
Our custodial team has prioritized deep cleaning of those buildings where employees are on-campus and will deep cleaning throughout the summer. Carver PE Center, PepsiCo Recreation Center, Gerber Dining Center, and the Thomas Tredway Library will remain closed until August 3rd.
Faculty work spaces
Cleaning and sanitizing can only occur on work spaces that are unoccupied. It would be tremendously helpful to organize papers and other items into one area and remove personal items as possible. Most academic buildings will be locked, so be sure to bring your keys if a quick visit is planned.
All employees and visitors should complete a screening any day where campus work or visits will occur.
- Level 1: Those employees with frequent contact with visitors or campus community members and/or a position that has work locations across the campus should complete an in-person screening in Sorensen Hall at the Office of Public Safety.
- Level 2: Those employees with a fixed work location and a personal thermometer can complete an electronic self-screening. This must be completed each day when working on campus using this self-screening tool.
A mask or face covering should be worn in all common areas and when around others. The mask should cover your mouth and nose. Once you are in a private work area, the mask can be removed.
While on campus, everyone is expected to maintain social distancing of 6 feet from others.
Meetings of no more than 10 can occur as long as the above precautions are observed. Virtual meetings should occur if possible. All meetings should be reserved using the ASTRA system so that adequate sanitation before and after each meeting can be scheduled and performed.
All employees returning to on-campus work should complete training on Augustana policies and the basics of preventing COVID-19. As the college begins its phased return to work program this training will assist in preparing you for the "new normal" on campus.
Below you will find two new resources that are required training during your first week back. The Augustana Return to Work Guide covers new policies and best practices put into place to ensure a safe working environment. The Understanding COVID-19 video covers all the basics about the virus and offers guidance from the CDC and WHO on how to best protect yourself and others.
Please take a few moments to review both resources and then attest that you have completed the training. This will be required for all staff and admin employees, so for those not yet returning, feel free to complete this now rather than in August. Members of facility services who attended in-person training do not need to do this again. Training for faculty will be rolled out closer to the start of the academic year. In light of the extraordinary events of the summer, the President’s Cabinet is happy to announce an additional holiday as a small token of appreciation for the hard work of the campus community.
Along with observing Independence Day on Friday, July 3, the college will also be closed on Monday, July 6. This holiday applies to those employees who have a regular work schedule that includes July 3rd and July 6th. The Office of Human Resources has removed previously approved vacation hours for July 6th.
Update on Time Off Changes
As shared earlier this year, changes to our time off policies have been identified as one of the cost savings items for the college. The President’s Cabinet is continuing to finalize a plan for change. We hope to share information about these changes by July 1, 2020.
Wedding Season is upon us
Allison Mirell is excited to announce that she and her husband, James Heaton, were married in Augustana's Ascension Chapel on June 6, 2020. Allison began working as a counselor in the Augustana Student Counseling Services Office Fall of 2012.
Allison and James were honored to have Pastor Priggie as their officiant. They express sincere gratitude to both Pastor Priggie as well as President Bahls for granting permission for the wedding to take place in Ascension Chapel. Allison and James are happy to share a few pictures from their special day, including a picture of their blended family.
