Summer Academy check-in, accommodations and more

Note: The following information will not be mailed out in the Augustana Summer Academy registration packet with the documents and forms.

Please review the details below.


Required documents and forms will be mailed out to participants shortly after registration. These forms include: Participant Conduct Agreement, Waiver and Release, and Medical Authorization.

We ask families to provide a copy of the student's medical insurance card along with the medical authorization. All forms must be returned to Augustana College no later than June 1, 2020, in the envelope provided.  

All forms must be completed, signed and returned to Augustana College to participate in Summer Academy.

Check-in and check-out

Check-in from 3:30-4 p.m. on your assigned day at Swanson Commons, 1010 38th St., Rock Island. (Swanson Commons will not be open before 3:30.)

Should you arrive to campus early, please feel free to walk around campus until check-in begins. See chart below for check-in date and time for your course. Participants will receive room assignment and room key at check-in. Bed sheets (2 flat sheets) and a washcloth and towel will be provided at check in or will be placed on the beds.

Check-out at Swanson after class on the last day of the program (see below for program check out dates and times). Bring all sheets and towels to the laundry bins near the lobby desk.  Room keys must be returned to the lobby desk attendant. Lost keys or keys not returned will result in a key replacement charge of $75. Students who have class until Thursday, June 25, must be leave the residence hall by 5:30 p.m. unless previous arrangements have been made. Should check-out information change, emails will be sent out to inform program participants.

Roommates and accommodations

Participants will stay in sophomore suites at Swanson Commons, 1010 38th St., Rock Island. These two-bedroom (four-person) suites are connected by a shared bathroom and are air-conditioned.

This is a co-ed residence hall. Rooms are furnished with beds, desks, chairs, dressers and waste baskets.  Beds are extra-long twin, and you will be provided with sheets (two flat) for your bed, one bath towel and a washcloth.

If needed some students may be placed in the apartments in Swanson Commons. Apartments are furnished with beds, desks, chairs, dressers and wastebaskets. There are no other furnishings in the apartments.  

The lobby service desk will be staffed during non-class hours. The phone number to the desk is 309-794-3860. During the day, the main doors are locked. No one may enter without the staff member’s knowledge. After 10 p.m., the doors will be locked.

We do our best to assign roommates who are the same age. If you have a roommate request, email or call Bonnie Jessee, 309-794-7395, by May 15.

Special accommodations and dietary restrictions

If you have special needs, it is important you email or call Bonnie Jessee, 309-794-7395, as soon as possible and include this information on the medical release form so proper arrangements and/or accommodations can be addressed. 

All participants must be self-sufficient and able to see to their own needs and dispense their own medications (if needed). Also, please remember to include any dietary restrictions and food allergies on the medical release form.


Activities are scheduled and planned for each evening. All activities will be free, but you may want to bring some extra money in case you want to purchase snacks or have some spending money.  Examples of possible activities include: bowling, laser tag, mini-golf, bingo for snacks and prizes, movies, game night, bon fires with s’mores and ultimate Frisbee. Snacks are provided during evening activities. A list of all scheduled evening activities will be provided to participants at check-in and are subject to change.

Dress code

Augustana Summer Academy does have a dress code. There will be no tube tops, no shirts with offensive or suggestive language, and no short shorts. Underwear is to be worn under clothing and is not to show. Shirts and shoes will be worn during class time. 

There is a special dress code for Anatomy of Injury and CSI: Augustana. When in the lab, students will need long pants, shirts with sleeves (short sleeves will be fine), closed toe shoes, and closed heel shoes that cover the top of the foot (no sandals).  Acceptable footwear would be athletic shoes or loafers.

Spending money (to buy snacks or anything else) or feel free to bring your own snacks and beverages
Cell phone (no cell phone use and texting during class)
Alarm clock (if needed)
Sheets if you would like (2 flat sheets of fair quality will be provided, beds are twin extra long)
Towels (one bath and one washcloth will be provided)
Sunscreen – very important if your class will be outside
Insect repellent
