Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds
Augustana College has distributed two rounds of emergency aid to students, provided by federal law, to mitigate hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first funds were released in October 2020, and the second round of funds in April 2021.
A third round of funds was approved in March 2021 for distribution later this year. Augustana College will provide information about HEERF III once an allocation is made.
The CARES Act and HEERF I
The federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) was signed into law on March 27, 2020.
The act provided $2.2 trillion in economic aid to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of that money, $14 billion was given to the Department of Education as the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF I).
The college also received a grant for institutional expenses, and the quarterly reports are as follows:
Supplemental appropriations and HEERF II
The subsequent Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II) was authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) signed into law on Dec. 27, 2020.
American Rescue Plan and HEERF III
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) became law March 11, 2021. The plan contains an outline of what will become the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III).
ARP authorizes $40 billion to higher education institutions.
