DESCRIPTION:Dr. Charles Schmidt will perform a solo piano&nbsp\;recital. He will play Piano Sonata No. 2\, "Concord\, Mass.\, 1840-1860" by Charles Ives.\n\nThe sonata's four movements represent figures associated with transcendentalism.&nbsp\;\n\nThe four movements are:\n\n"Emerson" (after Ralph Waldo Emerson)\n"Hawthorne" (after Nathaniel Hawthorne)\n"The Alcotts" (after Bronson Alcott and Louisa May Alcott)\n"Thoreau" (after Henry David Thoreau)\n\nAn assistant professor of music at Augustana\, Dr. Schmidt\, has given recitals and masterclasses throughout the U.S. and worked extensively in the fields of musical theatre and opera\, both as an accompanist and musical director. He has presented lectures for many organizations and has been featured several times on Iowa Public Radio.\n
