DESCRIPTION:Collegia Classica will be hosting a screening of Oedipus Mayor/Edipo Alcalde\, a modern interpretation of Sophocles' classical Greek tragedy\,&nbsp\;Oedipus Rex.&nbsp\;\n\nSynopsis:\n\nSet amidst the rebel wars (representing the Theban plagues) of contemporary Columbia\, young Mayor Edipo must mediate a peace deal between conflicting guerrilla groups and the army. Along the way\, Edipo becomes engaged in a shoot-out on a lonely bridge\, but returns fire and escapes.&nbsp\;\n\nArriving in a highland village\, Edipo learns that a prominent leader has been abducted and killed by persons unknown. Edipo becomes involved in the leadership of the town and begins a romance with Yocasta\, a beautiful woman 30 years his senior (and the widow of the murdered Laio).&nbsp\;\n\nMeanwhile\, the blind Tiresias wanders the town\, making dire prophecies concerning Edipo\, Laio\, and Yocasta.\n\nTragedy ensues.\n
