DESCRIPTION:The Women's &amp\; Gender Studies Tea Talks series features faculty\, staff and guest speakers on a range of topics. Today's talk will be by Simone Roby\, fellowship instructor of psychology\, on "Black/Queer Intersections."\n\nLectures are free and open to the public as well as the campus community. Refreshments are served.&nbsp\;\n\nRoby is a Ph.D. candidate in counseling psychology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She explores intersectional identity experiences of Black and African American college students attending predominantly white institutions.&nbsp\;\n\nThis presentation will explore the ways overlapping systems of oppression (e.g. racism\, sexism\, heterosexism\, classism\, and ableism) normalize “mainstream” LGBT identities by perpetuating anti-Blackness. The talk also will sample representations of Black LGBTQIA+ identity experiences in media and art.\n&nbsp\;\n
