DESCRIPTION:The Augustana Center for Polar Studies will host Aaju Peter from Iqaluit\, Nunavut\, Canada\, to give the 2019 Polar Studies Lecture\, "Indigenous Rights in the Arctic Under Threat."\n\nPeter is an Inuit lawyer\, activist&nbsp\;and clothing designer. She has spoken around the world about her fight for indigenous rights in Canada. In 2012\, she received the Order of Canada.\n\nShe also has starred in documentary films ("Angry Inuk" and "Arctic Defenders")\, served as a Inuit culture guide on tourist adventures in northern Canada\, and served as a mentor for the Sedna Epic Expedition\, an all-female team of snorkelers through the Northwest Passage.\n
