Augie Sweethearts: Robert Coultas '40 and Charlotte Harvey '41
Submitted by Lisa Coultas Hargreaves of Wiscasset, Maine, on behalf of her parents.
It was first day, first semester 1937. Sophomore Bob Coultas strolled into mandatory religion class, took one look at the pretty young freshman sitting in the front row, and headed for the blackboard. He drew an elaborate hook on which he hung his jacket and cap and promptly jumped out the window. As the jacket and cap fell to the floor, a muffled giggle could be heard coming from the front row. The beautiful young coed, Charlotte Harvey, was smitten. Their story had begun.
He fell in love with her for her beauty and intelligence; she for his wit and charm. Members of "The Greatest Generation," their marriage spanned 63 years, and their four children would later describe it as a match made in heaven. Today through the Robert and Charlotte Harvey Coultas Memorial Scholarship, they leave a legacy of love at the college where their story began.
