Augie Sweethearts: Rowan and Michael Currie, Class of 2016
Submitted by Rowan Currie of Aurora, Ill.
In September of our sophomore year, Michael asked me to dinner. We met as first years, but it wasn't until the end of spring term that Michael developed a small crush on me while we were both performing in Pirates of Penzance. That summer, he messaged me online, and I decided to find out more about this guy. We chatted about our lives the entire summer, and when school started again I was excited to see where this friendship would lead.
A few weeks into the school year, he asked me over to dinner at his place. He cooked me a delicious pasta dinner, and then asked if I wanted to take a walk around the school. We walked down the slough path, through the quad, and ultimately ended up in the circle of benches outside the Planetarium. We talked there for at least two hours, until it began to get very chilly. As we were about to leave, Michael turned, saying, "These are for you," and out of the bush behind him he pulled a bouquet of beautiful roses. This guy had walked around campus to find the perfect place to hide these roses for me! I smiled, said something very cheesy, thanked him, and he walked me home to Andreen.
In December 2015, Michael found a giant Christmas tree in downtown Moline and asked me, "Will you make me the happiest I've ever been and marry me?" After almost four years as a couple, we were married on July 8, 2017. We had our very best of Augie friends by our side that day, and knew we needed to take pictures at the beautiful campus where it all began.
