Augie Sweethearts: Nick Polyak and Kate Robertson, Class of 1999

In August of 1995, I walked onto the basketball court at Carver for freshmen orientation and found my assigned group. My eyes immediately found Kate Robertson, who was definitely too good for me. (By the way, she still is too good for me). Our small orientation group from that day became friends and began to hang out all the time.

When I finally got up the courage to ask Kate out on a date, another member of our group, Mike Shields, invited himself along too. So after a first date to a movie with Kate...and Mike, I decided to drop Mike off first. I was so nervous that I drove away too quickly and ran over Mike’s foot. After that, though, I walked Kate to the front door at Andreen and we had our first kiss. We got engaged the day before graduation. 17+ years and four children later, we are an Augustana Love Story!
