Augie Sweethearts: Julie Reeves '44 and Jean Brooks Reeves '46

Submitted by Julie Reeves of Topeka, Kan.

It was 1940. I was a freshman, just learning my way around campus.

I was switched to a different Spanish class in Old Main due to overcrowding and soon faced my first pop quiz. I walked out to join three or four other students discussing the test. I looked up and into the bluest eyes I'd ever seen. Oh, my goodness!!! Where have you been hiding all my life? We fell into step to walk over to Denkmann Library to pick up the mail.

That was 77 years ago and through four years of WWII and 52 years of marriage until today, in my 97th year, he has been the only man in my life (except for our three sons).
