Meet Dr. Gail Summer, Augustana provost
In this video interview, Augustana's new provost, Dr. Gail Summer, talks about why she wanted to return to a liberal arts college with a Lutheran affiliation.
"For me, it's all about that vocation," she said. "It's about that allowance, in that Lutheran high ed experience to really encourage students to explore who they are, to discern 'Why are you here, what do you want to do, what are your gifts, what can you give back to the world when you're done.'"
Dr. Summer earned a B.S. from Indiana University, Bloomington; a M.Ed. from University of South Carolina, Columbia; and an Ed.D. from University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
She had been the vice president for academic affairs at Ferrum College in Virginia since 2013. Before that, she served in various capacities at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C., from professor of education to the dean of academic programs. Augustana and Lenoir-Rhyne are two of the 26 colleges and universities related to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
