Auditions for "Stop Kiss"

Auditions for Augustana's April play "Stop Kiss" will be held from 5-9 p.m.

Callbacks will be from 3-5 p.m. Jan. 13 as needed.

Performance dates are April 6-9. The play is by Diana Son and directed by Audrey Johnsen.

"Stop Kiss" originally was written to highlight the struggles in the budding relationship of two women in New York City. Their relationship and lives are threatened by a homophobic hate crime.

Theatrical experience is not necessary, and students with little to no theater background are encouraged to audition.

Theater majors should have a prepared 90-second contemporary monologue. Non-majors are not required to have a prepared piece.

All those auditioning are encouraged to have read the script prior to auditioning.

Updated for today, director Audrey Johnsen wants to show the way trans women in America are vulnerable, choosing to play Sara herself and rework the character and the scope of the show to focus on trans experiences and narratives.

Told through flashbacks, Stop Kiss is both a story of love, hate, acceptance and intolerance.

There are two roles for women (one role will be played in drag), and two for men. Both male roles are double-casted, with one role played in drag.
