Black History Month Film: "13th"

The Student Government Association will present the documentary "13th" in honor of Black History Month.

The  2016 film by director Ava DuVernay is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 89th Oscars.

The film's title refers to the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which outlawed slavery. DuVernay's documentary examines the idea that slavery still exists in the U.S. through mass incarceration.

After the film, there will be a discussion led by Augustana's Sustained Dialogue.
