Chinese papercutting reception and workshop

A reception and papercutting workshop with Professor He Hongyi will be offered. Her works will be exhibited in the library until May 18.

Students who attended Asian Term in 2016 were able to have a workshop with her in China.

Refreshments will be available to participants.
 

He Hongyi is a professor of South-Central University for Nationalities in Wuhan, China. She has been awarded the title of “Chinese Folk Arts and Crafts Artist” by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and China Folk Artists Association.

She has been teaching and researching traditional Chinese folk arts and handicrafts since 1982 and serves as a committee member of China Folklore Association, Asian Folklore Association, China Paper-Cutting Artist Association, and member of the Guild of American Papercutters.

During her regular visits to the U.S., Hongyi has lectured at institutes include the Library of Congress, China Institute, Museum of Art and Design, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tufts University, Columbia University, College of William & Mary, The University of Maryland, etc. She has also been invited to Norway, Japan, and South Korea for cultural exchange programs. In addition, Hongyi has published three books and over 40 journal articles.
