Dia de la Raza
Augustana College will host Dia de la Raza, a campus and community event celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, on Sept. 15.
The event will be held from 5-8 p.m. at the Viking Plaza on the Quad. Community members may park at the Centennial Hall lot or nearby street parking.
The first 100 guests will enjoy free tacos, chips and salsa, horchata and Mexican paletas from Coya's Cafe.
Grupo Realidad will entertain the crowd with live music, and there will be a special performance by the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico.
There will be activity tables to play lotería, pirinola toma and dominoes, and to craft lanterns symbolizing the original freedom torch.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is from Sept. 15-Oct.15 and traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans.
Dia de la Raza is sponsored by Augustana College Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity in partnership with the Office of Alumni Relations, Office of Student Life and Leadership, Multicultural Programming Board, and the Office of International Student and Scholar Services.
