Presentation: 'U.S. Democracy: It's Not as Bad as it Seems'

Guest speaker Dr. Kurt Weyland, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin, will discuss the resilience of U.S. democracy in light of recent political developments, drawing from his latest book, which focuses on the case of the United States, and research on authoritarian populism. His book examines the resilience of U.S. democracy, and his talk will update the findings given the current state of affairs in the US under the Trump Administration.

Dr. Weyland has conducted extensive field research across Europe and Latin America, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Venezuela. His work explores democracy transitions, authoritarianism, fascism and populism and draws inspiration from cognitive psychology and historical analysis. His current projects examine Latin America and innovative protest tactics targeting public decision-makers.
