Eddy Mabry Diversity Award winners announced

A poem regarding the struggles of the members of non-binary, trans community as well as an essay about the pop culture representation of Latin American people took first and second place of The Eddy Mabry Diversity Award.

The Eddy Mabry Diversity Award recognizes academic work by dedicated students who have demonstrated a significant commitment to enhancing multicultural awareness at Augustana. Submissions included works that explore issues related to diversity and multiculturalism such as social class, culture, race/ethnicity, sex/gender, sexuality, disability and religion.

First prize: Jake Phillips, a first-year student from Carol Stream, Ill., At Your Prettiest/Your Name Is

Second prize: Vanessa Reyes, a senior from Taluca, Ill., majoring in political science, More than Just an Image: Pop Culture Representations of Latinxs and the Immigration Debate
