Symphonic Band Sesquicentennial Celebration Weekend

On Nov. 23-24, more than 200 alumni, parents and friends of the college attended the 150th anniversary celebration of the Augustana Symphonic Band (ASB). Participants came to campus from as far away as British Columbia; Washington, D.C.; the Netherlands; Dallas; Colorado; and California.

Weekend highlights included:

  • 700 people attended the Symphonic Band Sesquicentennial Celebration Concert, which featured the world premiere of Symphony Nov. 6 "The Color of Stars" by Kevin Walczyk and the Alumni Band performance
  • Celebration dinner and concert conversation (pre-concert talk), featuring Dr. James Lambrecht and Kevin Walczyk, moderated by Dr. Jonathon Kirk '97
  • Alumni Band rehearsal
  • Alumni and music faculty recital, featuring alumni of the ASB and Augustana music faculty

The goal for the fundraising campaign for the Symphonic Band Sesquicentennial Endowed Fund was exceeded by more than $17,000.

Members of the planning committee were Amy Jackson '78, Jerry Johansen '68, Dr. Jonathon Kirk '97, Dr. James Lambrecht, Randy Micheletti '98, Evan Sammons '20, Allessandra West '20, Bob Wujek '98.
