In recognition of Pastor Priggie

Comments of President Steve Bahls at the celebration of Pastor Richard Priggie’s 35th anniversary of his ordination.

May 7, 2017

Congratulations Pastor Priggie on thirty-five years of service.

More than anything during your thirty-five years in ministry you’ve demonstrated love in actions. The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 12:9-13:

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Pastor Priggie, you have shown your sincerity in every interaction with your colleagues as we seek to make Augustana better place.

You have shown your devotion not only to your dear wife, Janice, and your children, Katherine, Daniel and David, but to everyone you come in contact with.  Thanks for believing in us.

You’ve been a leader at Augustana in your zeal for social justice and your fervor for interfaith understanding.

You’ve been a role model for all of us in teaching us to hope during the dark days, to be patient in the face of adversity, and to pray for a better world.

And I admire you most for what you’ve taught me about respecting those in need and practicing unwavering hospitality.  You’ve made me a better person and have done the same for everyone here.  May God continue to bless your ministry in the years to come.

On behalf of the thousands of students you’ve served, thank you, Pastor Priggie, for an awesome 35 years of service.
