“The Farm Life of a Swedish Immigrant in Illinois, circa 1900-1925,” 1984

Collection includes one memoir “The Farm Life of a Swedish Immigrant in Illinois circa 1900-1925” by Elmer B. Oberg, undated (circa 1975-1983). Elmer B. Oberg was born in 1907 in Neponset, Illinois. This memoir details his life growing up farming with his family in western Illinois. His father, Nels (or Nils) Oberg, was born in 1872 in Sweden, came to the United States in 1890. This memoir describes his farm work as a frugal and resourceful man. Collection also includes two pages of family genealogical information for Nels (or Nils) Oberg, 1984.

Teodor Olsson’s H.S. Hermod School (Malmö, Sweden) papers, 1900-1906

Collection consists of accounting class materials from Malmö Språk- & Handelsinstitut directed by H.S. Hermod in Malmö, Sweden. Includes class materials, a letter from the director of the school offering a discount on future classes for Teodor Olsson, and three of Olsson’s class exercises.

Luther Academy (Wahoo, Neb.) records, 1883-1950

Luther Academy was founded in 1883 in Wahoo, Nebraska. Samuel Magnus Hill served as acting president and helped shape the history of the school. This collection includes meeting minutes for the board of the Academy, two student groups, and of several meetings of the Nebraska Conference of the Augustana Synod. Also included are news articles related to the school, correspondence with presidents and reports of the Nebraska Conference, and some student and religious writings.

PLEN-tiful opportunities thanks to '79 grad

Thanks to Shelby Olson ’79, five students got the chance to be Augustana's first attendees at a national three-day seminar, "Preparing Women to Lead." It was an eye-opener for all, and for one student, at least, a career-changer.

 If you see Daniel Chetel strolling the Augustana College campus, you’d be forgiven for thinking he’s a student. The boyish 34-year-old  embodies the artistic drive and passion of many of his students. And as conductor of the 75-member Augustana Symphony Orchestra, Chetel literally is going places.
