River research
River research with the geography department’s Scholar Ship is seriously fun. Also see photo gallery at the end.

Augustana is #7 in the nation and #1 in Illinois for Academic All-Americans: student-athletes who excel equally at their studies and their sport. Our bowling team had the 19th best team GPA in the country in its first year of competing.

It’s because Augustana students are serious about work + play.

For example:

Club sports are a big deal. Crew practice is in early morning on the Mississippi River. One of our equestrians won 10th-place in western horsemanship at the IHSA national championships in 2018. The newest club sport is fishing club (we like rivers).

Augustana students live where they learn—on this residential campus. It’s a lot of fun. Nearly 200 student groups include arts, athletics, social, social awareness, student government, Greek life and more. You’ll find yours. You can also start a new group.

About 88% of students volunteer—to do good, have fun, and build experience as citizens and professionals. In 2018, for the second time in three years, Augustana’s Best Buddies won Chapter of the Year in Illinois.

One of the most surprising things about an Augustana education?

Academics is seriously fun.

Build robots with Dr. Stonedahl in your AI class. Track turtles for your research with Dr. Muir. Interview toddlers about their toys in the Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing. Descend the Grand Canyon on your geology field trip. (The ascent isn’t so fun…but then the victory at the top!)

Seriously, whatever field(s) you choose for your Augustana bachelor’s degree—the victory at the top of your liberal arts education—it will be fun. It will be a new kind of fun, different from anything you’ve experienced before. And it’s all for you and your future.

That is some serious fun.

A blog for the birds in Greenland

Senior Bailey Aasen is having some serious fun this summer. She's part of an Augustana field crew studying birds and climate change.
