Dr. Chris Strunk, assistant professor of geography, will present a talk on his research: "Resettlement Ecologies: Refugees, Agrodiversity and Belonging in Rock Island."

Description: "Cities across the United States have encouraged urban agriculture as part of recent sustainability initiatives, but gardens also embody longstanding tensions over the appearance and control over urban landscapes. 

"My research examines the geographies of refugee resettlement and incorporation in the Midwest, focusing on the role of community gardens. This presentation draws on field research with students in the West End of Rock Island and explores what plants can tell us about (agri)culture, urban planning, and belonging."
