Encouraging Conservation: How Smart Messaging Can Reduce Water Use

Dr. Colin Kuehl of Northern Illinois University will speak on "Encouraging Conservation: How Smart Messaging Can Reduce Water Use."

He is assistant professor of political science and a member of the Institute for the Study of the Environment, Sustainability, and Energy at NIU.

Description: "Recent water shortages, like those in Cape Town and California, show that promoting pro-environmental behaviors among members of the public is a key component of conservation. This talk will look at on-going research that uses strategic messaging to nudge individuals toward voluntarily reducing their water consumption. It examines how information, motivation, and behavioral skills interact to encourage or discourage water conservation and environmental behavior broadly understood."

His talk is sponsored by the Stanley Erickson Lectureship in Public Affairs at Augustana.
