Masterworks V: Requiem
Verdi’s "Messa da Requiem" is a religious and emotional work. The performance will feature a full chorus lead by Augustana Professor Jon Hurty.
(Another performance will be offered at 8 p.m. March 7 at the Adler Theatre in Davenport.)
One hour prior to each Masterworks performance, concert goers are invited to attend informal pre-concert conversations hosted by Kai Swanson to hear about the works being presented.
"Messa da Requiem" is a musical setting of a Catholic funeral mass for four soloists, double choir and orchestra. The soloists will be Alexandria Shiner, soprano; Daryl Freedman, mezzo-soprano; Cooper Nolan, tenor; and Steven Humes, bass
The Requiem was composed in memory of Alessandro Manzoni, an Italian poet and novelist whom Verdi admired. The first performance was in Milan, Italy, in 1874, on the first anniversary of Manzoni's death.
