Schalk Lectureship in Political Science: 'A World on the Move'

Dr. Elizabeth Ferris will give this year's Schalk Lecture in Political Science. Her topic, " A World on the Move," will be about issues of refugees and migrants.

Dr. Ferris is research professor with the Institute for the Study of International Migration at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and an adjunct professor in the Georgetown Law School.

She also has served as senior advisor to the UN General Assembly’s Summit for Refugees and Migrants in New York.

She spent 20 years working in the field of humanitarian assistance, most recently in Geneva, Switzerland, at the World Council of Churches. She has also served as the director of the Church World Service’s Immigration and Refugee Program, as research director for the Life & Peace Institute in Uppsala, Sweden, and as a Fulbright professor at the Universidad Autónoma de México.

Her latest book, "Refugees, Migration and Global Governance: Negotiating the Global Compacts," with Katharine Donato, will be published this year.

Her talk was made possible by the Stephen L. Schalk Lecture in Political Science and Current Events, which provides resources for a lectureship program concentrating on political science and public affairs. The lecture was established in 1998 with a gift from the late Stephen Schalk, a Davenport attorney and a 1969 graduate of Augustana.
