Covering the caucuses
For months now, presidential candidates have been flocking to Iowa, including the Quad Cities, to garner support for today's Iowa caucuses.
With Iowa just across the Mississippi River from campus, Augustana students and recent alumni have had the opportunity to cover the caucuses for local news outlets.
Here are a few links to their stories, and ways to follow their coverage:
- First-year students Daniel Williams of Milan, Ill., and Kaitlyn MacDonald of Washington, Ill., recently reported on the caucuses and Augustana students' political involvement for the Augustana Observer.
- Two Augustana seniors, Chloe Dale from Plainfield, Ill., and Sam Dunklau from Paw Paw, Ill., as well as 2015 graduate Sarah Ritter, have reported for WVIK-FM, Quad Cities NPR. They'll be out covering the caucuses tonight.
- James Stratton '13 is reporting from Des Moines for the Quad Cities' NBC affiliate, KWQC-TV. He's had the chance to meet several news icons during the past few days, including NBC's Tom Brokaw, Matt Lauer and Chuck Todd. Also, the chair of Augustana's political science department, Dr. Christopher Whitt, is KWQC's political analyst, and he has appeared multiple times on their newscasts with expert analysis.
- Another member of the class of 2013, Jack Cullen, has covered the election as a reporter for the Quad-City Times.
- Angie Mitchum '08 Sharp is covering the caucuses from the anchor desk at WQAD-TV, the Quad Cities' ABC affiliate. Sharp is the anchor of their 9 p.m. newscast.
