Free spring art films at the Figge

Augustana has an institutional membership for all students, staff, faculty and administrators at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport.  

This includes unlimited free admission with an Augustana ID.

This spring, the Figge will present a series of award-winning, independent films about the arts. These films have been honored as examples of great filmmaking and excellence in cinematic storytelling. 

Films will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday February-May.

Feb. 10: 'Finding Vivian Maier'

2015 Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary

For five decades, while working as a nanny and housekeeper for a number of Chicago families, Vivian Maier secretly took more than 100,000 photographs. Real estate agent John Maloof’s purchase of a trunk full of unidentified negatives from an abandoned storage locker for $380 at a thrift house auction leads to the discovery of a major 20th century photographer.

Wim Wenders’ joyful tribute to the genius of choreographer Pina Bausch. 

April 14: Two short films

Cavedigger (2014 Academy Award nominee, Best Short Documentary)

Ra Paulette sculps magnificent, intricate, and ornate cave complexes under New Mexico’s arid landscape. His creations are as big as houses, delicate and beautiful, and take 10 years to complete. 

Which Way is the Front Line From Here? (2014 Emmy nominee, Best Documentary)

British photojournalist Tim Hetherington and American journalist Sebastian Junger were nominated for Best Documentary for their film Restrepo about the war in Afghanistan. Six weeks after attending the Academy Award ceremonies, Hetherington was fatally shot on the front line in Libya. This is Junger’s tribute to Hetherington’s extraordinary work.
