The Learning Commons is hiring student tutors for academic subjects for the 22-23 academic year. The deadline for applications is April 1.
Information sessions will be offered for interested students to learn about what it’s like to be a tutor, and the application process. These will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Olin 201 on March 2 and March 17.
The Learning Commons offers two types of tutoring: appointment and drop-in tutoring.
Appointment subjects offered are accounting, biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, French, Greek, Latin, math, physics and Spanish.
Drop-in subjects offered are chemistry, computer science, Greek, Latin and math.
Individual tutors work one-on-one with students each week for an hour or two per student. Individual tutors set their own schedules and work with the student to find a time to meet.
Drop-in tutors create their schedules within their subject teams and work one or two two-hour shifts per week. Drop-in tutoring takes place in the evenings, Sunday through Thursday.
To apply, students will need to complete the online application, which includes submitting a short essay, job history, and official transcripts to be sent through Arches. A recommendation from to an instructor who is familiar with you and your work also is required.
You must be a currently enrolled Augustana undergraduate student who is legally eligible to work in the U.S. A minimum 3.0 GPA overall, and a minimum grade of B+ in the courses you want to tutor, are required.
Successful candidates will be informed before the end of the spring semester. The online application will be available by the beginning of spring semester.
