Round-robin letter delivers for 60 years

Three cheers for 60+ years of Augustana friendship and support. There can be no price for such a gift.

The Class of 1958 recently celebrated our 60th reunion. For the first time in 10 years, all five COGs were there — Wanda Sandeen Jones, Pat Steinhauer Feltskog, Trudy Erickson Magnuson, Carole Johnson Scheldrup and myself, Lucia Anderson Moore.

We have maintained the friendship that started in our sorority, Chi Omega Gamma, with a round-robin letter that has made its way around the Midwest at least twice a year for the past 60 years.

We were either at or in each other’s weddings. We all had two children around the same time. We shared our experiences of raising children and remaining sane at the same time. Our children went off to college — more stories to share.

Then some of our children got married, and then the grandkids arrived! Some of the children did not get married but still, more grandchildren and now, a great grandchild.

We adapted to the age of technology though this is not among our happier memories. Most of us held jobs, either part-time or full-time, and all were eager volunteers and still are.

In addition to sharing our joys and laughter, there were also tears shed over the deaths of parents and three of our spouses.

But through it all, our friendship endured and thrived. All of us are relatively healthy and happy in our golden years. And we are still writing the round-robin letter. One of our great joys is to get that letter…even if it is a little pokey.

Three cheers for 60+ years of Augustana friendship and support. There can be no price for such a gift.
