Why Maitreyi Shrikhande '26 applied early

When Maitreyi Shrikhande '26 from Davenport, Iowa, sat in on a conversation between a professor and a pre-med student, she knew Augustana was the place.

"I really liked the relationship they had," Shrikhande said. "Since it’s a smaller school, I got the vibe that you could really get to know your professors."

Applying early gave her peace of mind later in her senior year of high school. For a busy student like Shrikhande, having that weight off her shoulders was important. "It can be scary to apply early because you’re locking yourself into one place, but the peace of mind it gave me was so worth it."

In addition to the academic and personal connections, Augustana's tennis program also played a role in her decision. "I've played tennis my whole life and being able to continue that at Augie was a big plus. It gives me something to focus on outside of school."

What ultimately convinced her was the deep sense of belonging she found here. "I love the community. The small school environment is essential for me. I need to feel engaged and at Augie, I know I'll see familiar faces on my way to class and can ask questions whenever I need."
