University of Glasgow Press Cutting Volumes
Collected either by or for James McNeill Whistler, the University of Glasgow Press Cutting Volumes collection of over 3,000 individual press cuttings from international journals mounted and annotated in 26 press cutting volumes, first digitized here, provides us with a critical view into the active life and work of this American expatriate artist and his international contexts toward establishing Modernism.
Several of these include handwritten annotations both aimed toward identifying the source for each clipping as well as clarifications and responses to the reviews.
The physical collection is housed in Special Collections at the University of Glasgow Library, Hillhead Street, Glasgow, G12 8QE, Scotland, UK. Email: library@glasgow.ac.uk. Telephone: 0141 330 6704.
We extend thanks to past and present University of Glasgow colleagues, Nigel Thorp, David Weston, Margaret MacDonald, and Sarah Hepworth.
