Mike White

Part-time Assistant Professor, Double Bass

Mike White has served on the music faculty at Augustana College since 2020, where he teaches applied double bass and bass guitar. His teaching portfolio includes courses in the FYI program, Music Theory Rudiments, Musicianship II, String Methods, Senior Inquiry Seminar, and Introduction to Music. He also maintains an active private studio through the Quad City Symphony Orchestra’s Private Lesson Program and regularly leads sectionals and masterclasses for local middle and high school students. Dr. White has previously held teaching positions at the University of Iowa, Cornell College, and St. Ambrose University.

An active orchestral performer, Dr. White is currently Assistant Principal Bass of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and previously held a position with the Waterloo–Cedar Falls Symphony. He performs regularly with ensembles including the Quad City Symphony, Orchestra Iowa, Illinois Symphony, Peoria Symphony, and Sioux City Symphony. In addition to his performing career, he serves as Personnel Manager for the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. White holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Illinois State University, where he studied with Dr. William Koehler, and earned both his Master of Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Iowa under the mentorship of Professor Volkan Orhon.

Originally from Flossmoor, Illinois, he enjoys cooking, reading, video games, and pestering his cat, Melly.
