First place winner: $4,000 scholarship ($1,000/year)

Katrina Friedrich- More Than I Imagined '17

The profile I connected with the most was with that of Katrina Friedrich. Just like Katrina, I want to fully immerse myself in the college experience. I hope to major in biology, pursue a career in medicine, continue running in college, and engage in Augustana’s string orchestra. Similar to her, I would love the opportunity to intern at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, try my hand at research, and participate in societies like she did. Katrina’s profile helps reassure me that it is possible to pursue my future career without having to sacrifice doing activities that I love!
Second place winners: $2,000 scholarship ($500/year)

Sydney Kohn- LaPorte, IN
Steven Mondloch- More Than I Imagined '17
I see myself in Steven’s involvement in clubs on campus. I want to join service clubs, interest groups, and whatever else I can get my hands on, just as Steven recommended. In high school I was involved in primarily athletics and academic clubs until my senior year, when I took a chance and joined theatre, which I hope to continue at Augustana. I found a family in the cast and crew, just as Steven did through his activities, and that’s something I’m excited to find at Augustana. I can’t wait to join my fellow Vikings and get involved on campus!

Katrina Friedrich- More Than I Imagined '17
I feel very connected to Katrina, because I have the same major interests as her. I also have her passion for research, and I cannot wait to be able to conduct research on my own. Katrina also mentioned that the faculty and the other students helped push her to be the best she could be. I believe that the staff and students will also push me, to help me grow as an individual. Like Katrina, I am also planning on taking advantage of the internship opportunity through the Texas Medical Center Program. I cannot wait for my Augustana experience!
Honorable Mention: No money, just the warm glow of knowing your entry was fantastic!

Flash Marroquin - Storm Lake, IA
Alyssa Froehling- More Than I Imagined '17
Ms. Froehling is the epitome of what I wish to accomplish within my life of higher education. From creating, performing, and teaching poetry, acting in the theater department, to the community service done abroad, it all just clicks! She even explains of the warm inspirational environment she was in and that, I believe, is what I wish to find within my future college. The way the professors were described is so intricate and sincere that I can already imagine their greatness without even meeting them yet! Someday, hopefully, my profile might look just as great!

Brenna Whisler- More Than I Imagined '17
Upon reading Brenna's senior reflection, I noticed we had similar parallels in our reasons for choosing Augustana. She said Augie had a "friendly atmosphere and community". I couldn't agree more with this statement. Augustana was incredibly personable and truly made me feel welcomed when I visited. Brenna also mentioned how she changed her major 7 times. I learned that it is perfectly normal to change one's mind on majors. Given that I am still exploring several different options, I could relate to her on a personal level with this dilemma. Brenna followed her gut and genuinely inspired me!
