Why Augustana?

I chose Augustana because it was close to home. I am very lucky to have such a great institution as part of my community.

Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?

Yes, I am surrounded by friends, family and the grace of God.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

My family, ancestors and countrymen have all sacrificed greatly in order for me to be in the position that I am in now. I am grateful for the support and guidance from my close family, and I am grateful to my countrymen for building the civilization for which I am a part. Mostly, I am thankful for the grace that God has gifted me.

Peak experience?

My favorite experience would be reading in the Quad.

What surprised you?

I was surprised how helpful Thomas Tredway Library was to my research during my college career.

What will you miss the most?

I'll miss the beauty of the campus.

Advice for the Class of 2028?

To flourish, one must act in accordance with their nature. God created man as hylomorphic: body and soul. Therefore, to flourish, one must train their body and soul. To train the body, one must diet and exercise. To train the soul, one must train their reason to lead their emotions and appetites.

"Jon understands the importance of following intellectual passions, while staying grounded in real-world experiences. In his history senior project, he proved to be a careful thinker, a thorough researcher and a sophisticated writer, with a belief that our history should focus as much on people's successes as on their broken promises."

– Dr. Brian Leech, associate professor/chair, history
