Why Augustana?
I chose Augustana for its small class sizes and the opportunity for real discussion. I appreciated that professors know you and genuinely care. That turned out to be true. I have really benefited from the support and engagement, especially in the geography department.
Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?
Definitely not. I came in shy and quiet, and I never imagined I'd take on so many leadership roles, especially through my sorority. Those experiences helped me grow personally and professionally, building skills that will support my future career and relationships in the workforce.
Who helped you get to where you are now?
So many people have helped me along the way, but two professors in particular have had a huge impact.
My advisor, Dr. Strunk, has been instrumental in shaping my path in geography. His guidance, encouragement and dedication to student success have made my college experience truly meaningful. I am incredibly grateful for the support and opportunities he provided.
Dr. Lashley has also been an incredible influence. Her passion for what she teaches is contagious, and she has been an amazing professor and role model. Her insight, enthusiasm and support have been a huge help throughout my time here.
I truly cannot thank them enough for the roles they have played in my academic journey and personal growth.
Peak experience?
My peak experience was traveling to Coastal Louisiana for my GEOG-230 class in my sophomore year. It was one of the most incredible opportunities I have had. Exploring such a unique region early in college helped shape my interests in the geography major.
What surprised you?
I was surprised by how many opportunities Augustana would offer me. The positions I have held, the organizations I have joined, and the experiences I have had have all shaped me into who I am today.
How did you use your Augie Choice?
I am using it to go to Sweden for my Geography of the Arctic class! I am very excited to travel there after graduation. It feels like a good way to close out my college career.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss my wonderful friends and my amazing professors so much! Being able to see all of my favorite people every day has been incredible.
Advice for the Class of 2029?
Be yourself, and trust your gut. It is easy to be swayed by others, but following my instincts has led to my best decisions. Things may feel uncertain, but everything will work out in the end!
