Quinn Au: Cruella de Vil: The IT Girl
Artist statement
We live in a world where there is so much sadness, loss, boredom, and fear so to minimize the "damage" that these create, I would like to turn them, the "villainized" aspect, into something much more hilarious and trendy. I always find the idea of humor to be a fascinating subject because we all need a little laughter in life. Therefore, when I was trying to decide what to create, I always made sure that humor is the core of it.
As we grow older, we start to lose our ability to look at things in the world in a child-like manner, which means that our innocence, imagination, and playfulness begins to disappear. We all try our best to become an "adult" but oftentimes, all we need is to let our “child” come out and play. This idea became my goal when creating the project.
Fashion has always been a big passion of mine and I wanna incorporate and showcase this side of me through this show. For this project, I turned different villains that we see in movies into Gen Z influencers with a trendy style and clothing. A silly yet serious approach to the design hopefully will bring people laughter while appreciating the fashion itself.
