Artist statement

My work consists of paintings that are personal to my life. I am attempting to understand the inner world of someone who experiences an intricate and often devastating cycle of psychosis. This attempt to understand stems from my journey to connect with a close relative affected by this condition.

I strive to illuminate the complexities of our relationship through my art and highlight how I try to foster empathy while navigating our fractured relationship. I want to create a space to invite empathy for people who experience psychosis and other mental disorders. More importantly, I want to highlight that people are more than their diagnosis. The more disorders are talked about, the more we can understand them.
