Soup is said to warm the soul.
I hate soup.
However, the warmly comforting feeling people get in the pit of their stomach is something I admire and henceforth aim to emulate in a way that’s food for the eyes rather than the stomach.
In a manner similar to how I pick up hobbies, the way I create my pieces ranges from a plethora of different mediums. From buttery oil paintings to scratchy iPad doodles, my pieces revolve around the purpose of sparking a placebo of when someone remembers a movie they watched as a kid or smells a scent that transports them to their childhood home.
Izzy Blanford is a senior from Moline, Ill., majoring in graphic design and film.
To aid in my quest of bringing joy to those who generously give the time, I focus my pieces around light-hearted ideas that come from the part of my brain that has some childhood whimsy still left and positive moments from my past. Through the ways I execute: color, style, composition, and subject, I hope the pieces I cook up project my goals of sharing my own warm and fuzzy moments, as well as, silly little pieces that are nowhere near as deep and existential as soup is said to warm the soul.
